I started this hike under a starry sky, fresh snow underfoot. On the way I thought about the industrious miners who inhabited this magical cathedral of cliffs and peaks, just a couple of generations ago; I’m sure they had to stop what they were doing during a few sunrises to admire the rugged beauty of Mayflower Gulch. I saw the light start to hit the clouds, just the way I’d planned the shot, as I left the main trail to grab this view of the amazing natural amphitheater. Waist-deep at that point, I set up my gear and watched the sky, and snow, change colors during the sweet spot of the golden hour.
